“LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor do I exercise myself in lofty matters, or things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

Psalm 131: 2-3

Oh, LORD, how I need to hear these words today. It is so easy for me to get caught up in worrying about what is happening to the world and fretting about all the decisions being made that I cannot control. The more I fret, the more I become angry and anxious and upset. BUT the thing is, unless it is something I can effect, all my anxiety is all useless and of no use. LORD, the things I cannot control are those things YOU are in charge of: politics, disease, death, life. LORD, I also worry so much about what other people think of me, of what they are going to do next, about what decisions they will make. But LORD, again, I have no control over other people. LORD, other people make their own decisions and they answer to you, O LORD, not me.

Father, I love the image of a child that has been weaned. A child who trusts fully in his mother does not worry about what is happening outside the home. He rests when his mother holds him. He is fully content. LORD, please let me find that true rest, as a child, in you. Let me never forget to come to you for that peace first, before my day begins. Father, you say we must be a little child to enter the kingdom of heaven. We must trust a little child. Father, how hard it is us for us women to trust as children. LORD, show me how. Let me trust you even more, in these perilous days.

Selah
